PEER FEEDBACK

It was amazing to get to see everyone’s completed work on the mesh bags and the beeswax. We went around the whole class, and everyone had a chance to comment on the whole body of work. Some comments came up multiple times including the vast variety of approaches everyone had taken. Not only did the class comment of the wide variety of designs, but also specifically on the diverse textures for the bag project. There was some consensus that the bag project gave us a little more time as we were able to do some work at home, less so with the beeswax project.  Here are few specific quotes:

I wis I had thought of that!

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

There was great support from the whole class/community.

Loved the bee model.

It was great seeing the progression from the bag to the finished piece.

A wonderful sense of movement.

My classmates are all developing their own particular styles.

I like not only the object but also the shadows it creates.

Vang Gogh meets architecture.

Endless possibilities.

There were 18 different comments from our group in the peer review, but several people made very similar comments so I have not included 18 individual quotes

SOME OF MY FAVORITE DESIGNS

After the round robin six of us had the time to talk a little about our word press pages and we hope that the rest of the class will get an opportunity to do so next week. This brought up some fascinating observations. Dale mentioned (and I definitely agree) that the hexagonal shape of the comb was something that interested her. Melanie was having so much fun that she didn’t get enough opportunity to take photos, and she also wondered about the ethics of using the bees to create the artwork and whether it was taking away from them the opportunity to do what they otherwise would have been doing. I related a couple of experiences that made some of the work at the exhibition relate very personally to me. Carsyn’s presentation showed an amazing variety of textures from the paper bags themselves. Shawna had taken a video and also showed her objects in situ, which cast a different perspective on them. Saskia’s photos of her black mesh bag on the wooden flooring was another example of the objects in situ. She had experienced the same issue I had when trying to group the multiples as she wasn’t able to stick the way object together at home using melted beeswax. Louisa had enlisted the help of her kids to create gestures for the paper bag and had spent a lot of time working with the mesh bags and light to project pinpoints of light through the surface.
