So – a painting class…. Managed to creep through 120 using a lot of primary colors and judicious use of collaging. Now we have to mix tone and blend. First few classes are skin tones and we have sienna, umbra hansa and white as our main colors. Also residual from 120 are magenta, blue black and another yellow

Our first class assignmet was our own hand. As I age I find that my skin has become looser, there are many more bletches and blemishes. The main concept was to stick with sienna and white as much as possible. I watched many of the other student managing to bring the third dimensional element in through belnding, values and shading. I found this harder to do, but have tried to create some 3D effect through the brush strokes. They also seem to capture the uneven tones of my own skin. After some time touching up the classwork I have looked at the options available using the whole range of colours available. Interestingly for skin tone we do not have a true red in our allocated paint – though I see red in the sienna. Typically one might think in terms of pinks and whites (for western skin that is) so it will be interesting to see how this all develops. Live model tomorrow….
