My heart really wasn’t into any of those however – and already 4 days into the assignment and with only 14 days total to present I was a bit up a gumtree. So I took a drive around, and two places which I like and have connections with are Filberg house and grounds and Kin Beach. I pick up Axton my grandson from Filberg park after his outdoor classes with Hand in Hand and one of our favorite places to go at the weekend is Kin Beach. From having to slide down with him two years ago to barely being able to keep up with him now. The Filberg photos of the vine trellis have a similarity to the Acropolis with their vertical columns, and the Kin Beach play area has a few elements of Kelly’s Back Yard. I have no idea how to start on either, but start I must.
There is something about the sort of incongruity of the very regular shapes and colors of the bench, the slide and the climbing frame juxtaposed with the wildness of the old crab apple tree that I like – a bit like Daniel Craig Martin’s wireframe work I researched for FIN 130. So Kin Beach will be the title of my piece. The day I went was wild and blustery and the leaves had all blown off the old tree which was something I hoped to capture.
After 3 collages in Unit 2, I am apprehensive, but a little excited, to do my first color painting in 50+ years.
