I had a few thoughts about the motion assignment and thought about rain on a window pane. I did a quick study, having used collage for the previous two assignments I thought about either masking or stenciling. In order to get the motion. I used a lot of water – forgetting the prohibition on diluting in the brief – though as several students are submitting their model studies for this assignment perhaps there was more latitude?
Plan B is a vase – starting off intact and then falling to break – stenciling the intact vase and then making a mosaic for the broken vase.
First attempt failed. I found it very difficult to apply the colors evenly and despite the suggestions that had been made regarding Tor’s earlier work I found it pretty well impossible to overpaint one color with another even without any dilution. I also had a couple of ideas for gestures to show the motion just didn’t work out unfortunately – I have yet to actually create a painting everything has been collaged grrrrr. I did wonder about making a base for the intact vase but decided against it in the end.
